Our Mission:
At the Agriculture Land, Water, and Resources Department of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, our mission is to sustainably manage and protect the natural resources of our land, ensuring their availability for future generations. We are committed to advancing agricultural practices that are respectful of our environment and culture, and that promote economic development and self-sufficiency.
We recognize that our land is a precious gift that we must cherish and protect, and we strive to be good stewards of it. Through partnerships with outside agencies, we work to optimize the use of our resources for farming crops such as cotton, hays, and grains, as well as the raising of cattle. Our department also places a high value on the preservation of our resources, ensuring that they are protected from degradation and misuse.
We believe that our work is not only important for the well-being of our tribe but also for the wider community. By promoting sustainable practices and protecting our natural resources, we hope to inspire others to join us in building a better future for all. At the Agriculture Land, Water, and Resources Department, we are proud to be part of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe's legacy of resilience and commitment to the land.
Objectives:
Develop and implement sustainable agricultural practices that improve soil health, water quality, and biodiversity. This could involve using cover crops, reducing tillage, and rotating crops.
Protect and restore natural resources, such as riparian areas, wetlands, and wildlife habitat. This could involve planting native trees and shrubs, removing invasive species, and managing grazing.
Promote economic development and self-sufficiency through agriculture and related businesses. This could involve developing new markets for tribal products, providing technical assistance to farmers, and investing in agricultural infrastructure.
Educate the community about the importance of sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. This could involve developing educational programs for schools and youth groups, hosting public events, and creating outreach materials.
Strengthen partnerships with outside agencies to support the department's mission. This could involve collaborating on research and development projects, sharing resources, and advocating for policies that support sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.
